This is something that will actually help you in life. Nobody has had this opportunity, and for us to have it, it’s just something like—it’s like a blessing.
We believe in a learning environment and curricula that motivate students to work to their full potential, that promote student discovery not just about content, but about who they are and what they are able to accomplish when their work has meaning. CCC students develop the ability to think critically, work collaboratively, and solve problems with a focus on the real world and how they can make a difference. In many traditional high school courses, students complain that they will never use what they learn when they leave school. CCC students leave school anxious to continue learning in higher-education settings and/or to apply their skills and knowledge in careers that ask them to think.
The CCC program generates this enthusiasm for learning with three distinct methods. First, students utilize a blended learning approach that enables them to work online, face-to-face in the classroom, and at experiential learning locations throughout the state. Second, students are given the opportunity for a unique threshold experience as participants in the Connecticut Student Innovation Expo, the annual event that showcases their entrepreneurial, innovative, and scientific spirit. Third, students are encouraged to value and practice 21st century skills. In order to competently and confidently enter today’s workplace and universities, students must not only recognize, but must actively seek to develop skills in innovation, creativity, communication, collaboration, technology, media literacy, decision making, reasoning, leadership, self-direction, and global awareness—just to name a few.
This comprehensive, cohesive approach to teaching and learning helps CCC students to grow and succeed academically, professionally, and realistically in the 21st century.
