Digital Media and Movie Making (DM3)
Overview

Digital Media and Moviemaking (DM3) introduces students to the world of digital film and video as a component of the rapidly evolving digital media industry. In the first semester of this program, students will develop and enhance academic skills, creative thinking skills, digital media literacy, and film making skills through the successful completion of individual assignments. In the second semester, students will form a production company, producing a Public Service Announcement (PSA), a CCC News Report, an Animation Short, a Documentary Short, and a Fictional Short. Each team project will target a specific audience and deliver factual information relating to climate change that will be distributed on a company Web site and uploaded to CTStudentFilms.org. Selected projects will be featured at the Connecticut Student Film Festival on May 7, 2010, and nominated for the Connecticut Student Movie awards.
200910 Challenge
Digital Media and Movie Making students will produce multiple film projects to promote, communicate, and deliver a green message to a specified audience that provides the attitudes and values needed to tackle climate change in the 21st century.
Student Meetings/Experiential Learning Dates
Throughout the school year, DM3 students will have the opportunity to work with industry professionals at related venues and colleges. Towards the end of the academic year, the Executive Producer of each student company will conduct monthly meetings in our Second Life environment. In this virtual setting, students will provide regular reports and team updates to the Program Manager in preparation for the release of their films at the Connecticut Student Film Festival. Dates and locations for 2009/2010 will be posted here soon.
The 2010 CT Student Innovation Expo
The culminating event for all students is the
CT EXPO, May 7–8, 2010, at the CT Convention Center.
What Do You Do in Digital Media and Movie Making (DM3)?
DM3 students will work on individual assignments at the beginning of the year. These individual assignments will provide each student with the opportunity to use multiple Web applications and resources to complete their own digital media and film productions. This individual work includes the creation of a Web page, animated company signature, company logo, silent film, public service announcement, and a news report. After the successful completion of these projects, students will become part of a student production company where they will produce additional films in a project-based learning environment. Using their experience and exploration from the first semester, each student will select a position in the company that will further develop and focus specific skills and interests.
